Reader Questions for THE DEVIL’S VIOLIN

We've completed Reader Questions for THE DEVIL’S VIOLIN: MYLLYSILTA’S HISTORY. They’re now available on the “Recent Works” page.

We provided similar questions for SILENCES: A NOVEL OF THE 1918 FINNISH CIVIL WAR  and THE ITERATIONS OF CAROLINE, too.

Discussion questions sometimes touch on the reasons an author writes the book in the first place—what were they examining in the time they spent with these (imaginary) people? And sometimes they touch on themes that become apparently only as characters come to life.

For THE DEVIL’S VIOLIN, Roy Blomstrom was considering how a violent childhood could influence the life of an intelligent man—through a variety of events including, war, profiteering, emigration/immigration, family life, and business.

At a recent book club discussion, attention turned toward children, and the question “what makes a good father?” came up. Antti Myllysilta made sure he wasn’t violent, like his father—but was that enough?

Of course, there aren’t right or wrong answers. We’re grateful for all readers and only want you to find our books thought-provoking and entertaining—a good investment of your time.
